Here’s Your First Look at Netflix’s Documentary Series *Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On*

Is porn today’s version of sex education? Can a virtual relationship provide IRL happiness? Those are just some of the questions that Netflix‘s new original documentary series Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On wants to know. The six episode anthology, which we can exclusively reveal will premiere globally on Friday, April 21, is an extension of the feature documentary, Hot Girls Wanted, which made its debut at Sundance two years ago.

The same women behind Hot Girls Wanted—Rashida Jones, Jill Bauer, and Ronna Gradus—have produced this new series, which explores people whose lives are affected by the explosion of the Internet and what happens when social media, pornography, and virtual relationships are all just a click away. Basically, how sex and technology have become equal parts important in how we live and interact in our personal lives. Thanks to a first-of-its kind study at Indiana University (affiliates of The Kinsey Institute), researchers gathered information about porn use, relationships, and the sexual socialization of teenagers and adults.

Take a first look at the trailer, below:

Fascinating, right? That’s only scratching the surface. Episode two (“Love Me Tinder”) examines how Tinder, Bumble, and other dating apps have altered how we go about dating and hooking up. Then there’s episode three (“Women on Top”) which follows pornographer Suze Randall, who became Playboy‘s first female photographer in 1975. Now her daughter, Holly, is following her footsteps, but the landscape has experienced a major shift since her mom first broke into the boys’ club.

The series also follows 19-year-old Marina Lonina, who was arrested last year in Ohio for live-streaming the alleged rape of her 17-year-old friend on Periscope. Marina pled not guilty to multiple charges including rape, kidnapping, sexual battery, and pandering sexual-oriented material involving a minor, but life has never been the same (she now faces up to 40 years in prison). HGW: Turned On examines the allure of technology and young people’s desensitization to sexual content and violence, and whether that is a valid defense.

Hooked already? All episodes of Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On are available to stream globally on Friday, April 21.
